Serial Communications Cards
A66P1

Niobrara's A66P1, A66N2, and A66SM cards allow the direct connection of an ALTIVAR™ 66 AC Drive controller to multipoint serial networks for use in building automation applications. Both products consist of a Type 3 Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) card and a captive 10 foot cable that terminates in a 15-pin male D-subminiature connector. Each of the cables is shipped as a kit, bundled with a Phoenix Contact Subcon 15-pin to terminal adapter for connection to network wiring.

Embedded within each of these cards is the communication protocol and the correct set of serial communications parameters specified by the manufacturer of the connected device network. The A66xx card acts as a protocol translator to exchange operational data with the ALTIVAR 66 drive controller.

ALTIVAR 66 Drive requirements

In order to utilize the A66P1, A66N2, or A66SM communications cards, the ALTIVAR 66 drive controller must be equipped with either a Communication Carrier Module (Square D part number VW3A66205) or I/O Extension Module (Square D part number VW3A66201T or VW3A66202T) , and carry firmware version 3.2 or later.

Supported Device Networks

Niobrara's A66 Serial Communications Cards are available to communicate with systems from Siemens Building Automation (Landis Division), Johnson Controls, Square D SY/MAX®, or to allow the ALTIVAR 66 to be a drop-in replacement for OmegaPak® drives. As a node on any of the supported networks, the ALTIVAR 66 controller can receive and respond to data messages. These communications capabilities permit the following functions: Command and control Monitoring of drive function Diagnostics Changing drive parameters "on the fly"

Siemens Building Automation (Landis & Staefa) Systems

The A66P1K is embedded with the P1 protocol to connect an ALTIVAR 66 drive controller with Siemens Building Automation (Landis Division), Landis & Staefa, or Landis & Gyr Floor Level Networks. Includes a Phoenix Contact FLKM-D 15-pin screw terminal adapter, for connecting to the network.

Johnson Controls (Metasys®) Systems

The A66N2K allows Johnson Controls equipment to communicate with an ALTIVAR 66 drive using N2 (Metasys) protocol. Includes a Phoenix Contact FLKM-D 15-pin screw terminal adapter, for connecting to the network.

Square D SY/MAX Systems

The A66SM permits SY/MAX devices to communicate directly with an ALTIVAR 66 drive controller. Includes a cable to connect the A66SM to a 9-pin SY/MAX port.

OmegaPak Replacement

Modified versions of the A66SM are available to emulate OmegaPak drives, allowing the ALTIVAR 66 to be employed as a drop-in replacement. NOTE: Due to some hardware limitations in this card, it is impossible to make a single card that will fully emulate every possible OmegaPak drive. NR&D engineers have developed a program wherein the user's application is individually evaluated and an A66SM card is embedded with an OmegaPak emulation that will match the customer's application. Contact the factory for details of this program.
